Employment

Members who are interested in joining or returning to the workforce have several options available to them at Chester House which are enhanced by our partnership with Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS), career counseling, job search assistance, situational assessments, on-the-job training and employer intervention services are available to all members.

 

SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT (SE)

 

In Supported Employment, members choose the type of career they wish to pursue and how much support they need from Chester House staff.  Staff are available for problem solving, training, and negotiation with employers, both on and off the job site.  Supports are available to both the member and the employer for the duration of the job.  Transportation to and from the job site is available six days a week.

 

INDEPENDENT EMPLOYMENT (IE)

 

Independent Employment is available to members who can work with fewer supports.  Staff provide assistance away from the workplace when necessary and requested.  Supports range from helping with personal taxes to adjusting to changes in job duties as they arise.

 

CAREER CLUB

 

Career Club meets twice a month and is available for all members who are interested in employment or just want to learn about community employment.  Topics include job skills, interview tips, getting/keeping a job, and getting along with co-workers.  Any member interested in working is encouraged to participate.

 

EMPLOYMENT/EDUCATION DINNER/BREAKFAST

 

 Members working in the community or enrolled in school are encouraged to attend our Employment/Education Dinner/Breakfast, which is held twice a month.  The program includes many activities such as featured speakers, peer support, discussion of work-related issues, social times, dinner/breakfast, and an opportunity to remain involved with the clubhouse.
